Tabletop Mountain Walk
With views of east Toowoomba, the range crossing and Withcott as well as stunning views east over the Lockyer Valley, Tabletop Mountain is a rewarding climb and a Toowoomba icon that should be explored by all.The 1.9 km walk takes around three hours to complete at a steady pace. We would allow at least an extra half an hour to explore the top and enjoy the views.
The walk/climb is mostly loose rocks, although there are also large rocks which have to be climbed over. The last section, just before the summit is very steep; almost like climbing a ladder. However, if you take it slow, there is no reason that young children and the elderly can't reach the top.
The summit of Tabletop is grassy and rocky. Remember that it is called Tabletop Mountain because there are no trees on the top. If you are planning on staying for a while make sure you take hats, sunscreen and water.

If you don't feel as though you can make the entire trip, there is a smaller hill that you have to climb over on the way to Tabletop. This smaller summit provides some nice views back towards Toowoomba and to the south, as well as of Tabletop itself. Perhaps this shorter trip could be attempted before trying the longer walk.
To get to Tabletop Mountain follow Alderley Street east. Continue over Rowbotham Street. After a while, the road turns to dirt and becomes steeper. Everyday cars can go down to the car park as long as it isn't too wet. The car park (or section of flat ground) has space for about 15 cars.
