Roughly bordered by James, Hume, Alderley and West Streets, South Toowoomba covers five square kilometres just south of the City. With a total population of a 5,250 people, the suburb has a medium density with around 1,039 people per square kilometre. The average age of people living in this suburb is 34 years. This is about average compared to the whole of Toowoomba (35 years of age) but well below the national average age of 37 years.South Toowoomba has similar income levels to North Toowoomba and Wilsonton. The average individual income is $419 per week which is below the average for the whole of Toowoomba ($429) and low compared to the whole of Australia ($466). The average income for households is $785 per week and $1,018 per week for families. Unemployment is also quite high at 7.1 per cent compared to an unemployment rate of 5.1 per cent for the whole of Toowoomba. 19 per cent of employed people in this suburb are employed as Professionals.
