Picnic Point
Picnic Point Park was first established in 1902, when the Toowoomba City Council bought 2.4 hectares of land at the site. Another 63 hectares have been acquired since that time, and the Picnic Point Park is now accompanied by a vast area of native bushland.Perched on the top of the Great Dividing Range, Picnic Point has amazing views over the Lockyer Valley to the east. The Warrego Highway can be seen as it negotiates the range, passes through Withcott and east towards Brisbane. In the foreground is Table Top Mountain (or Geeumbi). A pathway edged with stones, constructed by the aboriginal people, can be seen on the flat, treeless summit.
There are a number of picnic areas with barbeque facilities scattered around the park and a number of children's play areas. There is also a cafe/restaurant located nearby with fantastic views.
A number of paths down the escarpment can be walked and range from 500 metres to five kilometres. There have been 145 bird species recorded within the park’s natural bushlands and therefore they walking paths are popular with bird watchers. The walks provide a great opportunity to get outdoors and can be enjoyed year round. Signs regarding these walks are located at the park.
