Public Transport

The only public transport available within Toowoomba is by bus, and these services are provided by Sunbus.

There are five routes across the city which the buses use (click on the map to the right for a larger view). There is also a special Kan-go service which operates on the east of the city and is a more flexible public transport offering. For people living within the Kan-go Roam Zone, the bus is able to pick you up or drop you off at your house. This service must be pre-booked by phoning 1800 231 248.

One way fares for adults range from $1.80 (one zone crossed) to $7.50 (eleven zones crossed) and concessions travel at approximately half the adult fare. Most travellers will cross fewer than four zones if travelling within Toowoomba and tickets for those journeys are less than $3.30 one way for an adult.

For the purpose of calculating fares, Toowoomba is broken up into six zones. Outlying areas, such as Highfields, are also assigned a zone. The fare is then calculated based on the number of zones you cross on a particular journey. This is an overly complicated way of calculating fares, for example, when travelling from Zone 5 to Zone 4, you actually cross three zones. This is because Zone 4 and 5 are located on opposite sides of Toowoomba.

Bus timetables are available from the Sunbus Office, on-board buses, in major shopping centres and at the University.
