Environment
Given that Toowoomba is well known throughout Queensland as the 'Garden City' and one of our major annual tourist attractions is the Carnival of Flowers, the environment is immensely important to the city. Put simply, protecting the environment and using sustainable farming and gardening practices should be one of our highest priorities.Toowoomba has been in drought for many years. Water restrictions have been in place for some time to help limit the amount of water we use and water-wise gardening has also become a way of life.
With regard to reducing the amount of waste that we contribute to landfill, Toowoomba Regional Council uses kerbside bins to collect materials to be recycled and green waste that can be turned into mulch. Recyclable waste and green waste is collected fortnightly on an alternating schedule.
