The Glennie School

The Glennie School is an Anglican School for girls. The school offers Prep to Grade 12 and boarding from Year 5, as well as a co-educational kindergarten.

The Glennie School continues the work of Benjamin Glennie an Anglican clergyman. Glennie was born in 1812, in Dulwich, Surrey England. He migrated to Australia in January 1848, and served in many religious posts in southeast Queensland. Concerned about the educational facilities for the children of the early settlers, Benjamin Glennie began what is now the Glennie School, and established an Endowment Fund for the school. After his death in 1900, the fund became the Glennie Memorial School Fund and was the beneficiary of considerable public support.

The Glennie School was officially established in 1908. The original school building was completed in 1910 and remains a fine example of the architecture of Henry James Marks.

Today, the Glennie School features well equipped, air-conditioned classrooms and specialist areas, a synthetic track for athletic and field events, performing arts facilities, indoor aquatic centre and wireless computer network. The Glennie School is currently working through a ten-year campus development plan, which includes the development of a new indoor gymnasium, covered sport facility as well as the continued improvement of classrooms and grounds.

To commemorate the School’s Centenary in 2008, Centenary Plaza is to be constructed in the latter part of 2007. This area will provide a shady and colourful environment for Glennie girls to relax whilst enhancing the School’s grounds.

Attendance fees for Australian students range from $3,450 to $8,150 per year and boarding is between $2,938 and $3,135 per term. In 2006, 17 per cent of the Grade 12 class achieved an Overall Position (OP) of between 1 and 4 (top 13 per cent of the state) and the median OP was 8. View more results from the Glennie School.
