In March 2008, the first election for the Toowoomba Regional Council was held. The Toowoomba Regional Council encompasses the previous councils of Crows Nest, Rosalie, Jondaryan, Millmerran, Pittsworth, Clifton and Cambooya.

Cunningham

The current member for Cunningham is Stuart Copeland. A member of the National Party, Stuart Copeland is the Shadow Minister for Education and Training and Shadow Minister for the Arts. Only a small part of the southern suburbs of Toowoomba is part of the electorate of Cunningham. Other centres in the electorate include Clifton, Pittsworth, Millmerran, Cambooya, Cecil Plains, Leyburn and Wyrema. Detailed map of Cunningham.

Toowoomba South

Michael Horan is the current member for Toowoomba South. He is the Shadow Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries and Shadow Minister for Sport and Racing. He is a member of the National Party of Australia. North of Cunningham, Toowoomba South includes the suburbs of Centenary Heights, Glenvale, Harristown, Middle Ridge, Rangeville, Redwood, Toowoomba South and Westbrook. Toowoomba North

The current member for Toowoomba North is Kerry Shine. He is a member of the Labor Party the current Attorney-General and Minister for Justice. The electorate of North Toowoomba includes the suburbs of North Toowoomba, East Toowoomba, Mt Lofty, Harlaxton, Prince Henry Heights, Mt Kynoch and Highfields. Detailed map of North Toowoomba

Federal Parliament

Toowoomba (as well as Oakey, Pittsworth and Cambooya) is situated in the federal electorate of Groom. At the most recent election in November 2007, Ian MacFarlane of the Liberal Party of Australia was elected with 52.71% of first preference votes (43,880 votes) which was a swing of -7.52% compared to the previous election. Chris Meibusch of the Australian Labor Party gained 34.83% of the vote which was a swing of +10.73%. Despite the large swing away from the Liberal Party, toward the Labor Party, Ian MacFarlane holds the seat of Groom with a very comfortable margin.
