Mount Tamborine

Not eating children.

At the smokers corner at Eagle Heights Mountain Resort

I do recommend that you use the Pacific Highway and turn of at Oxenford to reach Mount Tamborine. From the other side, the Beaudesert/Nerang road and then the Henri Robert Drive is only for people with NO fear of height. A steep, winding, narrow road with great views (so I was told but my fear of height told me not to look) will bring you to the town of Mount Tamborine.

The resort offers nice rooms, nice cold beers and a good dinner menu.
Staff is friendly and there to help with all those small problems guests encounter. Tennis court small duck ponds and out door sitting areas makes it a great place to relax and wind down before dinner. On a clear day you can see almost the entire Gold coast and the ocean, a stunning view at night with a million lights flickering in the distance.

Tamborine Mountain Hop-on Hop-off Tour.

This day tour was booked for us and confirmed via telephone from the Resort. An older model 15 seater bus rattles through the township and the friendly, knowledgeable driver explained features as we went along.
We started our day with a visit to the distillery, a wine yard and a much needed coffee break at Granny Macs Store. More wine followed before a lunch break at Witches Chase Cheese Co. Amazing was the small botanical garden and the look out over the huge valleys surrounding Mount Tamborine. A great tour for $30/person and a safe way to get all the wine tastings done. Thanks for a great tour and service.

Tamborine Mountain Distillery
Australia’s most awarded distillery
and Liquor brand

Take part in the tastings here for only $5.00 (refunded if you purchase a bottle)
Do not expect any standard drink/spirit here. This material is special, very special. A small company producing very delicious liqueurs and spirits. All kinds of fruit liqueurs up to the much stronger pink Vodka, a rum liqueur (I took a bottle home).
Here is a list of just some you can try:
Chocolate, Choc Hazelnut, Choc Mint, Choc ‘N’ Chilli, Hibiscus, Wattle Toffee, Musk, Triple Sec,
Blackcurrant, Lavender, Licorichoc , Passionfruit, Coffee, Jaffa, Honey Dew Melon, Apricot,
Coconut Ice, Banana, Vanilla, Strawberry, just to name a few.
This place is a must see and is highly recommended by us.

Cedar Creek Estate

Again a small company, so do not expect mass produced wines. The variety is great and for me as a Moscato lover they offered
A Splash of Pink – Muscato – 750ml (8 % ALC/VOL) $18.00/bottle
And
Cedar Crème – 750ml (16.5% ALC/VOL) CREAMY & SWEET (like Baileys but as I think even better) $24.00/bottle
A place to remember.

Granny Macs Store

Fudge. The quality and variety of the fudge made on the premises, attracts customers from far and wide, many of whom tell us there is nothing to compare.
Sold by weight, customers can buy as little or as much as they like. Free tastings help to make your selection.
We tasted a few, tasted some more, then had another taste and discovered only one problem; what are we going to take home?
We decided on Cappuccino, Rum Raisin and chocolate/Vanilla Fudge.

A melt in the mouth dream of a fudge and a must see place.
Mount Tamborine Brewery

I did not try any of the boutique beers on offer as I thought it not to be a good idea after all the wine tastings.
We did have a chance to have lunch in the brewery beergarden. I settled for duck liver pate and goat cheese (both from the cheese factory) and a bread roll for a shocking $3.90 for the bread alone.
My wife ordered a chicken Burger with chips. The place did not seem very busy but after over 20 minutes waiting, I thought it might be time to remind staff of our order.
A further ten minutes later the “burger” arrived. A big roll, some Lettuce, Beetroot couple of slices of Tomato. After a bit of exploring we found the “Chicken” hiding under the greenery. Two pieces, each the size of a 50 cent coin and not much thicker either.
We paid $18.00 for this “meal”. I complained to the manager and the reaction was: “So, what do you want?” A great deal of customer service demonstrated. After some arguing I demanded a refund and received the $18 back.
My recommendation is to go there and stick to Cheeses for lunch.

Witches Chase Cheese Co.

The two young ladies at the cheese factory tried their best to help customers lining up to purchase and/or try some of the many varieties of cheeses on offer. As a cheese lover I recommend you go there and experience the quality on offer. Top quality boutique cheeses, especially the different goat cheeses are highly recommended.
